Why I’m Running
Why I’m Running for Chehalis City Council
We need a fresh perspective for Chehalis. My opponent has been part of Chehalis City Council for over thirty years. I understand the challenges facing Chehalis residents today. This includes working families, older adults, and young folks just getting started in Chehalis.
We need a responsible and fiscally sound city budget. If we want to keep our city solvent and healthy for years to come, we need a budget that can handle recent inflation. The budget needs to have revenue growth and development. I will propose a discussion of city zoning rules and permitting processes to find barriers to development in the city and surrounding Urban Growth Areas. I want to make Chehalis a place where the next generation can return to raise their family.
We need to proactively address homelessness in Chehalis. This means we need to evaluate and understand the how and why of homelessness. I want to support our community partners as they find ways to meet the needs of unhoused individuals. I would formalize a process where community providers and the city could routinely meet to discuss challenges and program outcomes.
We need clean and safe parks in Chehalis. Parks are critical points of social interaction for young families with children. Often parks have graffiti and equipment that isn’t working. I want to improve our parks and make them more safe and reliable for children.
My Experience
I have over 10 years working as an attorney in the social services sector. I’ve represented hundreds of seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. I have represented clients at all stages from administrative hearings to Federal District Court.. I know how to advocate for individuals and make sure their needs are met.
I have experience as a community organizer. I know how to bring people together, work with community partners, and elected officials to get things done. I successfully organized and recruited over 200 volunteers for Disability Capital Action Day, an important disability advocacy event. I understand that different stakeholders have different needs. I’m about finding common ground to get results.
I am a parent of a Kindergartener. I understand the challenges of raising a child in this time of instant communication, instant gratification, and sometimes too much outside influence. I want to make Chehalis a place where people want to raise a family. Whether you’re a homeschooler, an unschooler, or a public schooler, I will work to make Chehalis a city where you feel heard.
I am asking for your vote on Nov 4, 2025. Together we can bring a fresh perspective to Chehalis. If you’d like more information or would like to volunteer, please contact me at jessie@jessie4chehalis.com.
